Moldejazz
For its 62nd rendition, Moldejazz chose byHands illustrator Sandra Blikås as its festival artist. Inspired by summer and music - including the jazz parade that plays through the city of Molde every day during the festival - Blikås’ energetic artwork captured the vibrant spirit of the world’s oldest jazz festival.
By giving symbols of summer like roses, birds and sunglasses a prominent place in her work, as well as illustrations of musicians arranged to form the shape of a seagull, Blikås also captured a different side to this year’s festival; music and fun emerging like a born-again phoenix, after two years of pandemic. Much like the jazz parade awakens the streets on its playful march through the city, so do Blikås’ seagulls rise up and add colour; on banners, t-shirts and posters, from the trees in Alexandraparken to the wires above the main street. In addition to the printed artwork, beautiful sculptures were produced as well, by Prisonmade Hustad, an initiative that contributes to getting prisoners back to work after completing their sentences.
Here at byHands, we think nothing beats the combination of music and art. We would therefore like to thank both Moldejazz for the commission and Sandra Blikås for her work - a brilliant match!
